So this is how it goes. I'm home quietly doing some homework reading and TV watching. I light a few candles since I haven't done so in a long time. A little while later, my brother comes in and tells me that there are some firemen at the door, wanting something about a fire alarm. I think he's trying to mess with me about my lit candles, but decide to go along with it and go to the door. Where I find two firemen in uniform with their truck parked in front of the house. Turns out some one pulled the fire alarm at the elementary school a few blocks away. Apparently, some one saw my brother in the area and reported him and his friends.
So I talk to the firemen about how I heard my brother and his friends leave and return earlier, I figured they had gone to 7-11 for some late night candy (it was about 10:30 pm). Soon after the police arrive and after talking to the firemen, separate the boys and talk to them about what they were doing tonight. They of course lie for a while saying that they got most of the way to Sev, before realizing that none of them had brought their money with them. Supposedly they then came back home after that.
One of the officers claims that he smells alcohol on my brother's breath and does a breathalyzer test (my brother just turned 15 earlier this month). He results read .16, which is twice the adult legal limit of .08 (since he is a minor, any thing above 0 is illegal). One of his other friend's is also tested and has a better, though still illegal amount of alcohol in his system. At this point the officer asks my brother again, what had happened that night, and he confesses that he was the one to pull the alarm and that they (him and one of the two friends) had been drinking.
So parents are called, my mom is, of course, not home and not answering her cell phone, but the other parents are more responsible and come to collect their kids. The cops wait around a while longer, hoping to hear from my mom, who does call while there were talking to one of the parents, but since she was sounding a little drunk and was at a house were she tends to over indulge, I decided that she shouldn't talk to the cops just then.
Thankfully the cops comes back and lets me know that they won't be arresting my brother at this time, even though pulling the fire alarm is a misdemeanor and drinking is a citable offense. He fills me in on how the juvenile court will be letting us know what to do. He then leaves, even though they weren't supposed to unless the minor had a parent present, they decided I was good enough since I'm 23 and probably because they had been here for about 2 hours by then.
So, an innocent evening of homework turned rather an interesting evening spent with a cute police officer and fireman. Now I need to either finish my reading or just go to bed.

Well, it's not strep....

Well, I finally went to the doctor (a few times actually) and found out that I had a staph infection in my throat. She gave me some anitbiotics that didn't work, but did show me that I'm allergic to penacillin now (I developed a rash after finishing the medication, I seem to have delayed reactions to things I'm allergic to) and did some blood tests. After I went in to have the rash looked at, I realized that my throat infection hadn't been cured yet, so I had to go in again and got some different anibiotics that seem to have killed it, even though I'm still really thirsty all of the time.
The good news is that I don't have any indicators for diabetes (other than the non stop thirst), but I have high cholesterol (253 total with low HDL (good) and high LDL (Bad) cholesterol levels). She looked at the results and said that I must have a family history of high cholesterol, and that considering my age she's reluctant to prescribe pills as I'd have to take them forever. The really weird part is that my normal diet is basically the diet that is recommended for people with high cholesterol. I hardly ever eat red meat (only every so often at fast food places), I occasionally eat chicken, I eat lots of veggies, little dairy and egg products, and I started eating cheerios with soy milk a few months ago. I also started excercising last year and have been doing so regularly since then. I'm starting to think that something went wrong with the test since my dad said the only family history on his side is a few overweight uncles and my mom's had a heart attack but no cholesterol problems. So I'm either unique in my family or the test is wrong. I'll be getting another one done in about six months and hopefully its results will be better.
In other news, I'm doing well in all of my classes and have been working pretty steadily for the last month. So I now have $1000+ in the bank and should be getting a nice big check at the end of this month. I think I might actually spend some of the money on myself and get a new Intuos 3 tablet for home so I can take my old one to work with me. And I might also get that heart rate monitor that I've been eyeing since I started excercising. Oh, my half-brother finally got his braces off after 6 years of having them on, now he's brushing his teeth all of the time.

strep

Well, it's late, I think I might have strep throat and I'm not talking to my boyfriend. So all is great in the land of Insaniquarium (which I am currenly addicted to go to www.popcap.com/launchpage.php?… if you want to try it). I have to pick my mom up from the airport tomorrow, I have a test in my Buslaw class on Tuesday and it's my dad's birthday on Wednesday.
My throat hurts more now that I've started thinking that osmething might really be worng with it. Which sucks, of course. So does my boyfriend. He has so many problems with making any attempt at doing homwork. He's supposed to be writing a simple 3 page paper about his life's goals and he hasn't even started it yet. Plus, he's lied to me about how much he has written telling me that it was almost done when it isn't even started. I don't know why I got mixed up with some one who has so much trouble with school, since it is an important part of my life. He's more than smart enough to do well, he jsut won't take the time to work instead of playing games.
The good news is that I really like my Buslaw teacher, even if I don't like the material that much. I think I'm going to drop my self defense class since I only added it to get 12 units, which I don't have anyways since the streching class I was trying to add didn't get enough students to stay open. So hopefully, my health insurance won't call and find out that I'm not enorlled fulltime, or I'll be screwed.
I should go to bed. 2 more pageveiws and I'll have 800

Well, school started off with a bang yesterday. It turns out that the MW class that I signed up for has a prereq that I some how missed. So I'm going to have to drop it. Which isn't actually that bad since the teacher is one of those old school insane hardass types. Like, he wants the class to copy, by hand, parts from the book and turn them in, plus he gave bonus points to ppl who had the homework that was due on the first day of class (you know, that day where all that is supposed to happen is that you get the syllabus and go home early). The good news about it is that now I can try to find two 1 unit classes or a 3 unit class that I'd like more instead.
You might be asking, "why are you still taking classes? didn't you just get your BA?" Well, the reason is that to keep my health insurance coverage, I need to be a full time student (12 units) or find a job that gives me health inusrance. Since the job I have right now doesn't give me insurance, I'm taking night and online classes (so I can keep the ones I like even if I do find a good job before xmas).
Any one out there going to SBCC know of any classes that I should take? Again, I'm looking for for MW night classes or online classes.

that my school hates me. Since the end of last year there has been one or another weird assed mistake with my paychecks. I thought that it was all figured out now and that I'd get my last paycheck for the plant website with out a problem.
But nooooo, that would be too nice for them to do. So instead of getting paid for 112 hours during the month of June, I got paid only for 80 hours. Which means they still owe me nearly $400. How does this crap keep happening to me? Ugh, it really does suck. Good thing I had already decided that I won't do any more work for them ever again.
Alas, I have to get a REAL job now, so I'll get back to working on protfolio now.
